The Rite of Time

by Keith Barraclough

I recently worked with Matthew Tosca, the creative director and conductor behind the performance titled “The Rite of Time”.  The performance is a reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” and features dancers from Julliard and orchestra members from Mannes Conservatory.  Each of the promotional images shows a dancer with his/her accompanying orchestra member.  The performance is set for May 14th in Central Park and all the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Central Park Conservancy.  The first round of promotional images were shot on location at the Bandshell in Central Park.

Hoops

by Keith Barraclough

Now that it’s March Madness I thought I would share some images from a long-term project of mine.   Watching the games being played in huge arenas often has me wondering where many of the players got their start.  Not all of them are from a large city, but I bet many are.  Inner city basketball courts a not known to be in the best condition or even in the most ideal locations.  But since the sport is so popular with many kids and adults, and space is at a premium, courts will be set up anywhere there is space.  Usually not in the best locations, but good enough for a game of basketball.  Here are a few examples of “arenas” I recently photographed.

Of Particular Interest

by Keith Barraclough

I found these two stories and thought you would love to see them.  The first story shows how the arts can bring people out from a less than perfect situation and help them express themselves.  And many states are cutting the arts in high school – go figure.  It’s a story from today’s NY Times about photographers who have lost one or more of their senses (sight, hearing, etc..) or a limb(s).  They are amazing photos!!  You can find the latest story, called “Stairways as Mountains” here.  It’s part of an ongoing series about the city imagined by those New Yorkers without certain senses.

On a completely different note, this is from Corinne Vionnet called Photo Opportunities – Read the story here.  It is absolutely amazing (but shouldn’t be) how many people take photos of famous tourist attractions from the same vantage point.  The site has photographs that are layers of 100 photos of similar “photo souvenirs”.  I think they look fantastic.  Here’s a “photo” of the Eiffel Tower.
